It’s been over three years since the last proper Bitchin Bajas album — a natural paradise of woodwinds, droning organs, analog synths, field recordings, and an ever-expanding sense of MORE (and LESS). In between then and now came a series of collaborative LPs, with Natural Information Society (Automaginary), lmmaker Olivia Wyatt (Sailing a Sinking Sea) and Bonny Prince Billy (Epic Jammers and Fortunate Little Ditties). Each time these varied external stimuli came into contact with the Bitchin Bajas’ acroamatic process, it left the group with expanded perimeters to traverse.
So 2017 — what’s new? Everything and nothing, probably! The pursuit is still the same: a perfect continuous flow. The means to attain it are in full, fluid transition; woven into the strands that unspool so peacefully (and with such potent enervation) are new elements — like chord changes, for instance! The use of percussives is evident for the first time as well. Plus a horn section, a cover song...but before you start thinking that this Bajas Fresh is some kind of whole-cloth change, recall to your mind that the nature of equilibrium around Bitchin Bajas is such that new properties tend to melt into the surrounding texture, providing vivid sonics without uprooting the mindset. And they do.
While flowing towards a wholeness, the four sides of Bajas Fresh feature distinct approaches, approaching the ephemeral with subtle tweaks from new angles. Eschewing the grainy expansiveness of the self-titled album, this new one has an almost monolithic approach, whether spitting forth with Harmonia-styled data riffs, finding Denny-esque South Pacific exotica within a classic Sun Ra piece or teasing out almost imperceptible in ections inside the epochal zz and whir with glassy-eyed, glacial patience.
On Bajas Fresh, the cellular system of Bitchin Bajas continues to synthesize amid a growing ecosystem also of the Bajas’ making, both morphing naturally together into a state perhaps not that far removed from its former incarnation, while also essaying refreshing new tones for new zones. Succulent half- speed mastering done at Abbey Road gives the LP pressing greater depth, extension and resonance than all previous Bajas incarnations, but the double cassette version of course holds its own unique experience. Get our of your sound rut and freshen up — with Bajas Fresh!
Jake Pughmy speakers are making funny noises. they closely resemble the fake computer noises you would hear in older tv shows like "startreck" or "Dr. Who". is there any way to fix this? it just keeps getting worse. if you want to hear the sounds i can e-mail them to you.

"An amalgamation of folks, some deep in the scene and others existing out on the peripheries which lends to the project a nice balance of purposeful intent and complete rawness.
Walk the streets of asheville at night and you’re likely to hear a bluegrass or old timey band jamming; sitting on a porch drinking craft beer and playing hundred year old music. Somehow the music played never even comes close to the beautiful rawness of those early recorded sounds.
So i was quite pysched to find out a group like Mendocino has been holding it down for the last year or two, every sunday? night with some heavy RAW nightime jams.
Smack dab in the middle of one of asheville’s oldest neighborhoods these folks are laying out some heavy sound into the neighborhood night air, maybe burning a few ears and perhaps letting a little light into a few heads.
Definite references to early sunburned; wild animal & jaybird era. Fried basement feel, a work in motion that is unfolding on it’s own rather than with hands heavy on the wheel.
Not enough of these sounds these days, a thick heavy slice right down the mainline of your skull, unrelenting underground boogie.
