2017The Long Distance Relationship w/ Carpal Tullar
SeptemberDoors 7:30, Show 8:30 - $5
A multi-instrumentalist, Dave plays bass, keys, accordion, and guitar, but fronts his band live playing bass. A musical jack-of-all-trades and a master of none, these performances by him and others serve the song to their psychedelic-tinged, drone-ish, harmony-laden, hooked end. When fellow musicians are discussing the songs, performers such as Beck, Beach Boys, Elliott Smith, XTC, Kinks, Hollies, early Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett, Yardbirds, Jefferson Airplane, Fairport Convention and others get thrown around in casual conversation. Dave played with multiple bands since landing in Asheville, NC. Most notably, The Steves and Pick Your Switch. He currently plays bass and sings in The Lefties and recently started playing electric guitar, keys, and vocals in Carpal Tullar.
Dave’s Asheville version of the band includes musicians Chris Tullar on drums and vocals (Carpal Tullar), Dorsey Parker on lead guitar (Dorsey’s Big Benefit Band, Velvet Truckstop, Artimus Pyle Band), Ken Jones on rhythm guitar and vocals (Fifty Year Flood, Mountain Song Guitars) and also frequently features Louly Peacock (formerly of Rad Lou) and other guest vocalists and players.
Chris is joined on bass by Rob Heyer, who has played in many Asheville-based bands over the past twenty years and most recently Noonday Sun, John McKinney on drums, who is also a long-running Asheville musician, a multi-instrumentalist, but mostly plays keyboards for local bands and various projects in the area, most recently Station Underground and The Astral Plainsmen, and most recently Dave Baker of The Long Distance Relationship on guitar, keyboard and vocals.
Carpal Tullar has been played on WNCW, Asheville FM, appeared on NPR's All Songs Considered podcast, and even made a musical appearance on Car Talk.
