Honky Tonk Country Night w/ Hearts Gone South, Laurel Lee and the Escapes
JuneDoors 8:00, Show 9:00 - $10
Laurel Lee and the Escapees gained regional popularity in Portland, Oregon, before her move to Jacksonville, Florida (A new gang of Escapees). Her witty, wry, and touching lyrics alternately expose the most precious secrets of one’s heart while hiding those injuries behind a hardened Pioneer ethic.
Her song styles range from the deeply swampy blues of “Sorrow” to the swingin’, old timey, “Rub it Out”. The cruising song “On the Road” was featured on NPR’s popular program “Car Talk”, June 3, 2006, show #200622.
Opened for Wanda Jackson, Junior Brown, Southern Culture on the Skids, the Lincolnville Street Fair. 2012 shows so far: Orlando Folk Festival, St. Patty's at O'Brothers in Jacksonville, FL.
The Escapees remind the listener and viewer that the early American musical process continues to grow. Of course, the new century requires new assertions, but sadness is still levity’s neighbor, and sad songs still help us feel better.
