Doug Tuttle (formerly MMOSS)
New Hampshire-native Doug Tuttle (ex-MMOSS) presents the follow-up to his 2013 solo debut self-titled album with It Calls On Me.

Eschewing the jittery, love-lorn anxiety of his first solo outing, It Calls On Me presents a decidedly more dreamy journey through softer, sun-burnt landscapes, while still showcasing Tuttle’s trademark masterful guitar-work and his very own brand of impeccably-crafted, fractured psychedelic pop.

Written in 2014-2015 in Somerville, MA, It Calls On Me hints at the skewed, wide-eyed ‘60s folk-pop of Lazy Smoke or Ithaca’s, mysterious, fulgent Brit-folk rock, and the zoned ‘70s soft-rock of 10cc and Bread, neatly winding in and out through Tuttle’s panoply of hallucinatory effects, buzzes, and unshakably haunting harmonics to create a richly-textured album of sonic jewels.

Opener “A Place for You” is a rumpled, upbeat, almost solely acoustic jam, featuring Tuttle’s winding, sinewy guitar rambles and vocals like well-worn corduroy.

Title-track “It Calls On Me” is a tightly-wound propulsive rocker, recalling his debut’s slightly unhinged urgency with a pliant, rubbery, Richard Thompson-esque guitar solo that branches out like plant-growth.

“Make Good Time” is a gorgeous, intimately-crafted gem that gently shimmers with Byrdsian 12-string against pastoral vocal harmonies and hazy, mellotron strings and flute.

Other key tracks include “Painted Eye,” an epic, disorienting stunner that recalls the blurry stupor of ‘70s West Coast soft rock with a guitar solo needling amidst queasy, bent strings, and “Falling to Believe,” a catchy ear-worm that pairs Tuttle’s soft, hushed vocals with some seriously heat-blistered guitar-work.

Most reminiscent of his most trance-inducing work with MMOSS, “On Your Way” is an eerie, stately, almost trad-folk dirge that carries all the pageantry of Fairport Convention, backed by brittle, Fables of the Reconstruction-era R.E.M. guitar jangle amongst a tightly-woven tapestry of voices.

It Calls On Me shows Tuttle relaxing into his role as a memorable, compelling songwriter, eager to showcase his storehouse of harmonies and dissonances, and delighting in the more fragile and intimate aspects of frayed-at-the-edges song-creation. As a result, this record feels more like a blissful letting go rather than a giving in, allowing the flashing sunlight to create patterns across your closed eyelids as you drive a winding road through a forest of trees.
Nightlands
I Can Feel the Night Around Me, the third album from Philadelphia's Nightlands, showcases Dave Hartley's finely tuned ability to layer his voice and conjure some of the most beautiful and elaborate virtual choirs in modern music. If his first two records were vocal layering experiments, his third stands as Hartley's thesis statement: "I was determined to use vocal stacking to enable my songwriting, not shroud or obscure it."

He recorded most of the album alone in a cold warehouse basement, which he affectionately calls The Space -- it's where The War on Drugs (of whom Hartley has been a core member for the past decade) formerly rehearsed and stored their equipment. "The dissonance between the sound of the album and the atmosphere in which it was recorded is pretty striking," Hartley says. Indeed the music seems more geographically inspired by the microclimates of the Lost Coast and the moonrises of Big Sur than the post-industrial cityscape of North Philadelphia. Perhaps his periodic westward sojourns and healthy obsessions with mid-career Beach Boys albums and Denis Johnson's Already Dead: A California Gothic were influencing him more than he was aware.
Livingdog
Livingdog is the moniker under which Corey Robert Parlamento writes and performs his own unique brand of indie-folk music. Originally from South Florida, Parlamento spent some years away from song writing to travel and work. These experiences range from a life as a shepherd's right hand in the Piemonte mountains of northwestern Italy tending to herds of goats and sheep, all the way to the life of an operating room orderly carrying severed limbs to laboratories in a hospital somewhere in the sun soaked mires of eastern South Florida. His music weaves in out of those two worlds. At one minute you could be a gentle breeze on pasture wheat in a cool Italian summer, and the next you could be a pool of blood on cold linoleum. But, whichever world of his you end up in, you still get a sense of the beauty that lives within it. Currently living in Asheville NC, Parlamento spends most of his time writing and recording. He has self-released two albums since his emergence in the Western North Carolina music scene.

His debut full length, "Summer Homes", is a collection of 11 songs that introduces the listener to the raw vocal power and honest lyrical intensity that serves as the singer/songwriters foundation that continues to be present as he explores different sonic landscapes with each new release. "Scavenger Angels", a six song EP, is both a contemplation on the relationship between vultures and humans, and Parlamento's relationship with his hometown of South Florida. It delves into a darker sonic texture that displays Parlamento's ability to create a landscape with sound in addition to his lyrics. His forthcoming full-length, Childsurvivors, will be released on Eternal Mind Records this Summer.

"Livingdog brings audiences an honest, seductive and soft setlist, driven by flawless, haunting vocals"- Alli Marshall, Mountain Xpress
