Carly credits her singing voice to a wish she made on her 7th birthday and several years of classical training. The youngest of three in a family of talkers, Carly found that the best way to get others to listen was through song. During the incubation period she calls her childhood, Carly learned and mastered the art of observation. A skill which she still values and credits much of her content.
Carly Taich’s upcoming album, Reverie, is exactly that. Both an observation and a daydream. Layers of violin weave between her sultry vocals in duet fashion while the rest of the band takes off into a groovy wonderland. Her stories have a raw honesty like those of Sufjan Stevens or Angel Olsen; and a soulful optimism that reminds one of Lianne LaHavas. It is difficult to say who is the album’s true hero-Carly’s vocals, her lyrics, or the powerful orchestration that carries them through from one song to the next. If one thing is for certain, Carly Taich’s music cuts to the center of the heart.
